Ingredients

Night before:

  • 1/2 cup bread flour
  • 1/4 cup water

Day of:

  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • red chili jelly - optional

Method

The night before combine all the "night before" ingredients together; mix and cover with plastic wrap. Allow to sit in room temperature room overnight or 12 - 18 hours. In a saucepan combine the water, milk and butter. Heat till the butter is melted or till the milk comes to a scald.

Pour mixture into a large bowl and add 1 1/2 cups of flour; mix till smooth.

Allow the mixture to cool to 110F. Add in the night before mixture, instant yeast and salt. Mix with a wooden spoon till smooth.

Start to add in the rest of the flour. Mix in the bowl till it becomes to hard to mix. Pour out onto a floured surface and continue to add the rest of the flour. Knead the dough for about 3 minutes.

Place the dough onto a lightly oiled plate and spray some oil on top. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside for 30 minutes. Now, cut dough into about 3 ounce pieces. You should end up with 9 to 10 pieces.

Roll into a ball and set aside covered for another 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, take one bal and cut into three pieces. Roll with your hands to create a 6 inch rope with each piece.

Once you roll the three pieces into a rope. Take one rope and press with your finger to create a indent in the middle of the rope. Place onto a parchment lined cookie sheet. Do the same with the other two pieces and place them on top of each other to create a star shape like the picture above.

Take another ball of dough and cut small pieces and attach in a "v" shape at the tip of each rope. Now, continue till you create a snowflake.

You can make 4 snowflakes on a cookie sheet. Spray with oil.

Cover with plastic wrap and allow to rest for 1 1/2 hours.Take your chili jelly and heat in the microwave till soft. Brush the tops of the snowflakes. Sprinkle some sesame seeds on top

Place into a preheated 420 degree oven for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and turn on the broiler, brush again with some more chili jelly and place under the broiler for 1 minute. Remove from oven and enjoy!
