Cheese Wheat Beer Bread Recipe: Makes 2 loaves

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces beer
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 4 1/2 cups white flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese

Method

In a saucepan combine the beer, water and oil. Heat till lukewarm about 110 F. Pour the lukewarm liquid into a bowl and add 1 cup of whole wheat flour, 1 cup of white flour and the sugar, wheat germ, salt, yeast and egg. Beat for 2 minutes. Add in the rest of the flour and mix. Place the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 7 minutes. Place dough into a clean greased bowl and cover. Let dough rise till double in size. Place dough onto a flat surface and divide into two equal pieces. Knead each piece of dough. Add the cheddar cheese and knead till evenly distributed. Place dough into a well greased large loaf pans. Cover and allow to rise again. Place into a preheated 350 degree oven for 40 -50 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
