Peppery Cheese Bread Recipe: Makes 2 loaves

Ingredients

  • 1 package of dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 cup grated cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Method

In a small bowl dissolve yeast in warm water add a teaspoon of sugar. Set a side for 6 minutes. In a bowl add sugar, salt, baking soda, sour cream, egg and 1 1/2 cups of flour. Mix with an electric mixer for 30 seconds on low speed. Turn mixer to high speed and mix for another 2 minutes. With a wooden spoon stir in the rest of the flour and the cheese and pepper. Spoon into 2 greased med. loaf pans. Let rise for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350 F. Bake for 40 minutes. Remove loaves and cool on a wire rack.
